Could depression cause fibroids or fibroids cause depression?

0

Personally I think without question fibroids can bring about depression, or even if they don’t necessarily bring on depression directly, they will certainly do nothing to help mitigate depressive feelings; and the toll they can take on you physically can definitely affect you mentally. Whether or not depression can cause fibroids to grow in the first place, that’s a completely different discussion.

I know I’ve come across material that suggests stress causes fibroids to grow. Of course this is not scientific; but in what ever manner stress would lead to the development of fibroid tumors, whether directly or indirectly, it would seem that depression should be capable of doing the same.

I do doubt strongly that stress or depression can make stuff grow in your body. I think there needs to be something more concrete. When you really think about it, stress and depression are completely mental, and the idea that either one can make tumors grow in a woman’s uterus would be nearly impossible to prove without some physical thing you can look at and examine and say, this particular chemical or physical manifestation of stress and/or depression created fibroids via x y or z process.

I’m willing to believe that it’s possible to mess with the chemicals of your body just by elevating your stress or by being depressed; but I don’t think it would happen independently of anything you are putting in your body, whether it’s stuff you’re ingesting or stuff you’re inhaling. I think stress and depression could possibly prep your body so to speak, so that when the thing or things that cause the fibroids to develop entered your body through your respiratory or digestive system or both, the environment inside of you was just the right environment for the tumors to grow.

A lot of the women in my family have had fibroids. My grandmother had a hysterectomy. My mother lived with hers and saw them shrink after menopause. One sister had a hysterectomy. Another sister had a myomectomy. Another sister has had her fibroids since she was a teenager but hers haven’t caused her any major problems. Depression and/or severe stress is definitely a common theme for all the women in my family who have had this problem (the ones I know about at any rate). When you consider the number of us who have had fibroids, you would tend to look more towards the genetics factor. We would be a good case reference for anyone who wanted to argue strongly for this being a genetic thing. Clearly genes play a role for some people, but I think it’s important to understand what role it plays, what exactly gets passed on through DNA and how that thing, what ever it is, then leads to the eventual development of fibroids in offspring. Unfortunately I am not a scientist so I cannot suggest any possible explanations.

I find it difficult to understand how scientists can be sure there’s a genetic link and yet not be able to identify the cause of fibroids. It leaves me tempted to question the genetic factor, but then I have to come up with a rational explanation for why so many of my siblings developed this problem. I guess at the end of the day the genetic factor makes more sense than to say it’s because we all had stressful lives, have pretty intense and passionate personalities, and have all battled depression. We all also for long periods ingested the same foods, breathe in the same air so there would be enough common elements just in diet and external chemical environment to expose us all to the fibroid causing agents if these agents are in food or in the air we breathe. The same can be said for the suggested race factor. Genetics would not necessarily need to be the only explanation for why multiple women from the same family, or large numbers of women from a particular cultural background or from a particular region might have fibroids; but I suppose genetics is a more sensible and easier to swallow explanation than the idea that depression or stress could cause fibroids.

Dressing your fibroid belly – allen allen Women’s Sleeveless Cowl Neck Dress

One of the most frustrating realities of living with fibroids is that I always have to dress to try to hide my stomach. It’s easier to do some times than others. It depends on whether I’m in a stage where the fibroids are controlling me or in a stage where I am controlling them. They are always in control at that time of the month. There appears to be absolutely nothing I can do then to control the size of my stomach. My stomach gets extremely big and painfully uncomfortable when my cycle comes around and there’s no hiding my stomach at this time, unless I wear a tent. I have to avoid going out or make up my mind that people are going to think I’m pregnant.

I figure if you have to look pregnant at least look fashionable at it so I plan to buy this allen allen Women’s Sleeveless Cowl Neck Dressat some point when I get the funds.

It’s very frustrating to have this problem with my stomach, especially at this point when I’m probably in the best shape I’ve been. To look at my stomach and see all the evidence of the hard work I’ve been doing to get back to a high level of fitness destroyed by having this big protruding lump is annoying and at times depressing; but I try not to let it get me down.

Most of what I have in my closet are things I bought before this problem developed so there are times when I can’t go anywhere because everything I own will just emphasize my ridiculous stomach.

I do have to say that there are times when it’s not that bad. Like I’ve said in some of my other posts the fibroids do go down quite a bit when I’m not consuming much in the way of solid food; so if you’re trying to shrink your fibroids and you’ve heard people suggest a juice fast I’d say try it. I haven’t really done a dedicated fast the way it’s been suggested, as in going 30 days on a juice fast. I might try that starting in September when I should be able to afford it. A 30 day juice fast is not possible on my current budget.

I probably shouldn’t be eating oatmeal if I want to shrink my fibroids but…

0

I just had some oatmeal. It was a very small amount. Probably less than half of a serving. I had to make some for my son and there was a little left over so I decided to have it because I haven’t had anything to eat yet for the day and it’s 12:03PM. So why, you are probably wondering, am I making oatmeal for my son at 12:03PM? Well, I was supposed to make it hours ago but I was busy getting this website up and running, transferring my stuff from the website where I had previously been posting about my progress.

I don’t know if oatmeal is good or bad to eat when you have fibroids. I haven’t really focused my fibroid shrinking efforts around food as far as deciding that I can’t eat this food or that food. I’ve mostly just realized I can’t eat lots of heavy foods and I have to eat in very small quantities. This has worked really well for me; but I’ll admit I have my days when I have a little too much. It’s never that I over eat. I don’t have the room in my stomach to eat a normal amount of food. Because of the size and position of my fibroids it takes very little eating before I’ve reached the capacity of what my stomach can comfortably contain. What that means is that I have to really eat like a bird just to be able to sit without discomfort; and when I go a good 2 – 3 weeks eating like a bird, my fibroids appear to shrink.

In some of my old posts I talk about how important it is to me not to lose too much weight. I know to some people that will sound stupid, but I like having womanly curves. I didn’t always have them. In fact I was significantly underweight even into my early 30s. I’m a healthy size now and I want to keep my figure where it is. I don’t want back the twigs I had for legs. I also don’t want back the thick tree trunks I had gotten for a while there after I put on enough weight to be considered overweight. I’m fit and healthy right now and I want to stay that way. I don’t want to be too thin or too fat; and too many days eating like a bird I start to lose too much weight so I have to eat more; but when I eat more for too many days in a row the fibroids gobble up all the stuff that they need out of what I’m eating and fatten back up as well.

So I’m still trying to figure out what I can do to eat enough to maintain my weight yet keep the fibroids down while not really having to change “what” I eat every day, because right now I can’t afford a fancy diet built around my fibroids.

Can you drink soy milk if you have uterine fibroids?

You should probably not drink soy milk if you have fibroids because soy milk is said to contain phytoestrogens and there is a common belief that estrogen plays a big role in the development of fibroids. It is suggested that women with uterine fibroids should avoid ingesting foods that contain phytoestrogens. The Mayo Clinic is elsewhere cited as identifying lignans and isoflavones as the two main food types that provide phytoestrogens. Soy milk contains “significant amounts of phytic acid, alpha-Linolenic acid, and the isoflavones genistein and daidzein,” according to wikipedia.

Modification: Came across this site after writing the above and it appears if I am correctly interpreting the reading that the doctor, Michael Lam, MD, is saying the opposite of what I have said above. He seems to be suggesting that the isoflavones in soy is actually beneficial when you’re trying to treat the fibroids. You can probably contact him for clarification. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it all in my effort to find ways to treat my large fibroids without going the recommended hysterectomy route.

Apple cider vinegar shrinking fibroids?

I can’t answer from personal experience yet whether or not drinking a teaspoon or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar per day can help to shrink fibroids. I just read about this a few days ago and since I had some apple cider vinegar in the house which I bought to use for a test to see if apple cider vinegar can really get rid of warts, I decided to start taking it for my fibroids. The way I look at it, if it won’t hurt me to try then I’d rather try it and discover it’s a joke and doesn’t work than not try it because I assume it won’t work and I feel embarrassed to try something that might be construed by others as an old wives tale that only a fool would believe.

When you have fibroids so large that your doctor claims your uterus is the size of a woman’s uterus at 9 months of pregnancy, and you don’t have health insurance and can’t afford to pay for a hysterectomy, you can’t afford to snub your nose at suggested remedies just because you don’t want to look stupid for trying something smart people would presumably never try.

So I’m trying the apple cider vinegar. This is only my second day so it will be a while before I can comment on whether apple cider vinegar is an effective remedy for shrinking fibroids or not. I’ll also be trying other remedies in the hope that something works and I can get my flat stomach back or at least get it down to where people don’t feel compelled to ask me when I’m due.

Can yoga help get rid of fibroids?

Yoga for fibroids

I’ve been experimenting to see if yoga can get rid of fibroids or at least shrink them. Today I decided to do some research to find out if there’s any documentation suggesting yoga can help shrink fibroids. I found articles in which the authors claim that yoga, combined with diet and lifestyle changes, can help reduce the size of uterine fibroids. On the other hand I also found articles disputing the claim that yoga can affect the size of your fibroids.

From my experience so far, it seems to me that certain types of yoga exercises might help to tone and tighten the abdominal muscles which in turn can make the effect of large fibroids less pronounced. I have very large fibroids. My last visit to the doctor they said my uterus was almost that of a woman in her 9th month of pregnancy; so anything that can help me not look nearly 9 months pregnant will be good.

If nothing else, yoga is excellent for stress management and stress has been identified as a possible cause of fibroid growth. It can be assumed that yoga has the potential to prevent fibroids from growing larger. Possibly yoga in combination with other fibroid remedies might help shrink your fibroids. I am on a mission to find out and will share anything I find that actually helps to shrink my fibroids.

So far the yoga is helping to make my stomach tighter and more toned which makes it appear to protrude less, but I don’t think the fibroids have actually shrunken. I think I’m just managing to get rid of the excess fat I was carrying around in addition to the fibroids.

The way doctors talk you’d be tempted to think that anyone who claims they were able to shrink their fibroids naturally must be making a false claim. You figure if doctors can’t get rid of your fibroids without taking your entire uterus out, then there can’t truly be natural remedies you can use that will result in shrinking fibroids. As someone with fibroids I would be thrilled to discover that it’s really and truly possible to shrink your fibroids naturally and without having to spend large sums of money in the process. As I’ve written in a previous article I am trying to see if I can shrink my very large fibroids naturally using yoga (article), and also trying some of the remedies I’ve been reading about like drinking one or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar daily (article), working out regularly and making lifestyle diet changes (still working on that).

The way I look at it, if even one person has successfully shrunken or gotten rid of their fibroids naturally then it means it can be done. Of course it probably makes a difference the size of your fibroids, and mine are pretty big; but I prefer to think nothing is impossible. Something made the fibroids grow naturally. The reverse of the thing should be able to make them shrink naturally.

I don’t know that I believe you can meditate your fibroids away; but I do believe that meditation can help to keep you in the right frame of mind as you try to get rid of your fibroids.

Meditation can help you maintain your focus, keep you in a positive frame of mind and strengthen your belief in your ability not only to face the challenges that stress your life daily, but to conquer those challenges no matter what you have to do in order to conquer them. As for your fibroids, one of the things meditation can do is help you to stay on the course towards a healthier lifestyle where you’re making better choices as far as eating the right foods, getting more exercise and reducing your daily stress.

How to prepare apple cider vinegar baking soda fibroid treatment

Two tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 8 ounces of water

There are claims that a combination of apple cider vinegar and baking soda can help shrink fibroids. I don’t know if these claims are true. Please do your research to find out how safe it is to drink this combination of apple cider vinegar and baking soda.

Although there is an antacid recipe on the baking soda box for drinking a mix of baking soda in water, not everyone can tolerate this baking soda antacid treatment. Also some people cannot tolerate apple cider vinegar, so it would seem highly likely that consuming an apple cider vinegar baking soda concoction could potentially cause a bad reaction for some people.

Fibroid massage – can you cure fibroids with massage?

I strongly doubt fibroid massage can cure fibroids, but it’s been my personal experience that massaging my fibroids has provided relief and momentarily softened up the tumors to where they’ve made my stomach protrude less for a minute.

Massaging your fibroids away

I was already trying fibroid massage before I discovered massage is an actual therapy being used as a possible aide in the treatment of fibroids. You can get professional treatment from people trained in the art, but if you’re like me and can’t afford the expense, you can always do the massages yourself.

What I do is basically just use my fingers to gently press and massage my fibroids. The first time I tried it I was lying on my back on the floor after exercising and I noticed that I didn’t have to rise up in order to see over my stomach; but it wasn’t that the fibroids had gone away. The massaging seemed to make them disappear momentarily.

My fibroids sometimes get pretty high up in my chest right under my rib cage, making it difficult to sit. At other times it feels like I’m carry around a stomach full of hard grapefruit sized rocks. Massaging the fibroids relieves some of that pressure and eases the strain on my body from having to try to sit while something feels like it’s lodged under my ribs. It also leaves my stomach a little flatter for a short time, but the effects have never been permanent or terribly long lasting..

Perhaps a consistent ritual of massaging fibroids in conjunction with whatever other remedies you try could result in more long-term control over the impact fibroids have on changing the size and shape of your abdomen.
