It is suggested that women with uterine fibroids should avoid ingesting foods that contain phytoestrogens. The Mayo Clinic is elsewhere cited as identifying lignans and isoflavones as the two main food types that provide phytoestrogens. Soy milk contains “significant amounts of phytic acid, alpha-Linolenic acid, and the isoflavones genistein and daidzein,” according to wikipedia.
Modification: Came across this site after writing the above and it appears if I am correctly interpreting the reading that the doctor, Michael Lam, MD, is saying the opposite of what I have said above. He seems to be suggesting that the isoflavones in soy is actually beneficial when you’re trying to treat the fibroids. You can probably contact him for clarification. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it all in my effort to find ways to treat my large fibroids without going the recommended hysterectomy route.
